Building work starts on Coventry's new pool

Building work is underway on Coventry's new Olympic-sized swimming pool.

£10.5m is being spent on the 50 metre facility at the Alan Higgs Centre.

It will be situated within the area currently occupied by the indoor 3G pitch.

Other changes to existing facilities, including changing rooms, will also happen later.

The new facilities will include:

8 lane, 50-metre swimming pool, moveable floors and beams
500 spectator pool viewing gallery
Health suite - sauna, steam and sacuzzi
Swimming education rooms
Fitness suite expansion to 100+ stations
Function / meeting room expansion

The project is due to be finished by summer 2019. Coventry had been facing life without an Olympic sized pool, due to plans to replace the one at the leisure centre with a 25m pool.
