West Midlands Fire Service first released details of the blaze on Station Street East shortly before 6am this morning (Wednesday 18 September):

"Crews currently dealing with a fire involving a church in Edgwick, Coventry.

"We have 3 pumps and 1 aerial attending. Roof is well alight.  3 main jets currently in use."

WMFS then released a further statement around an hour later:

"Crews dealing with severe fire in a derelict church measuring 20m x 20m in Edgwick, Coventry.

"Total 4 jets in use. Crews are searching premises, Police and Ambulance also in attendance.

"Gas And Electricity Board also requested."

West Midlands Ambulance has told us they were called at 5.22am.

An ambulance and paramedic officer were sent to the scene but WMAS has confirmed there were no patients to treat.
