Coventry teen sentenced for armed robbery

A 17-year-old Coventry boy has got eight years detention after pleading guilty to robbery and possession of a firearm, following an incident at a property on Edgedale Road, Nuneaton.

It happened on on the evening of 6 November 2018. He appeared at Coventry Youth Court on 20 February 2019.

The boy, from the Wood End area of Coventry, was arrested in the West Midlands on 3 December and charged on 4 December. He appeared at Leamington Youth Court on 5 December and was remanded in custody.

Officers were called to the house in Edgedale Road at 8.34pm after three males wearing balaclavas forced entry to the property and threatened the occupants with a gun. The offenders left with six watches and fled in a black BMW towards the Long Shoot.

Two offenders are still outstanding.

Detective Sergeant Carl Buckley said: "This was a very serious crime which caused real fear to the victims. The gravity of the crime is reflected by the length of the detention and sends a message that the courts will not tolerate this kind of behaviour."

Anyone with further information about this incident is asked to call Warwickshire Police on 101 quoting incident 443 of 6 November 2018 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
