A hit and run driver from Coventry, who left a pensioner to die at the roadside has been jailed after West Midlands Police tracked down his damaged BMW.
Mohammed Ahmed hit Milton Forde as he crossed Burnaby Road in Holbrooks, just before 11pm on 12 May last year but sped away afterwards.
People living nearby who heard the sound of the impact found 83-year-old Mr Forde lying injured in the road and called for paramedics but sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two days after the collision, West Midlands Police officers identified a blue BMW matching the description of the one seen by witnesses which was registered to 33-year-old Ahmed’s address in King Edwards Road, Coventry.
The car was found to have damage consistent with a front-end impact and, after being interviewed, he admitted causing death by careless driving.
Ahmed appeared at Warwick Crown Court today (Friday 17 May) where he was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment which was reduced to 22 months for his early guilty plea. He was also banned from driving for 47 months.
