Machete found on Coventry bus

Police have seized a machete after arresting a man on a bus in Coventry.

Officers spotted a man at a stop in Greyfriars Road on Wednesday and recognised he was sought for questioning over a burglary in Deedmore Road in March.

They followed the bus and jumped on board when it pulled over in Hales Street.

A 20-year-old man was detained on the top deck and the machete found concealed inside a Superdry jacket that had been discarded nearby.

The man, from the Wood End area of Coventry, was charged with possessing an offensive weapon in public and appeared in court yesterday. He’s been bailed in connection with the burglary while enquiries continue.

The force say "a great spot by our officers and a lethal weapon taken off the streets".
