The RSPCA's had to be called in to rescue an owl that had found its way into Coventry's Lower Precinct Shopping Centre.
A security guard spotted the bird of prey near New Look early on Thusrday, and alerted the animal welfare charity.
Animal Collection Officer Cara Gibbon was sent to the scene and by the time she had arrived the security guard had managed to safely contain the owl in a box.
Cara said the bird appeared unharmed and was able to walk and fly. She is also baffled as how she got into the shopping centre but believes the owl may have been frightened by fireworks.
She said: “The owl is beautiful and she appears to be fine. She can walk and fly but I am taking her to our Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre for a check-up.
“I just wonder if she was frightened by the fireworks and this left her in shock. I think with a couple of days rest she will be back to her normal self and then we will be able to release her back into the wild.
“We know fireworks cause serious problems for pets but wildlife can also be startled by loud noises and flashing lights and so I wonder if this was the case here.”
