Photos released in connection with CCFC vs Sunderland disorder

Police investigating violence after the CCFC vs Sunderland match have released images of more than 20 men they want to trace.

Trouble flared as fans left the Ricoh Arena following the lunchtime game on 29 September this year.

A police officer was taken to hospital with a minor injury after West Midlands Police were able to quickly intervene in the disturbance between two sets of supporters outside the stadium.

The force’s football unit is keen to speak to these men in connection with the trouble. Although punches were thrown no-one came forward to say they had been injured.

A 22-year-old man from Sunderland was arrested as he was leaving the ground and later charged with being drunk and disorderly.

Pc Craig Harding from the football unit, said: "There were more than 16,000 supporters at the match and although the vast majority were well-behaved there were a small number who engaged in disorder.

"An officer, who was involved in separating the two sets of opposing fans, was injured but thankfully not seriously.

"There is no place in football for such trouble and we are keen to identify these men as we seek to establish who was involved."

Anyone convicted of football violence risks a banning order issued by the courts.
