Police hunt taxi driver assault suspect

CCTV has been released - to help catch the person who assaulted a taxi driver and tried to slash him in the face with a knife in Coventry.

It happened at the small car park at Tile Hill station on Friday 22 September. At 8.18am the suspect arrived on a train from Berkswell station and then loitered around the station.

Just before 9am he walked to the car park and jumped into a waiting Uber which was not booked for him. The driver of the vehicle then asked him to leave as he had another booking. The man became instantly hostile, pulled out a bladed article and swung at the driver.

The man then ran away from the scene, emergency services were called to assist the driver.

PC Tanya Dickinson form British Transport Police, said: “Thankfully the victim was able to block the man from causing any serious injuries; however he did receive a cut to his chin. The behaviour of this anonymous man is completely disgraceful, there is no explanation for this mindless violence.

“We are working hard to identify the person responsible and have a number of active lines of enquiries, however we need help from the public.

“I would like to hear from anyone who might recognise the man in the CCTV images we have released today. We think he might have vital information which could help our investigation. If you can identify him, please contact us.”
