A man has been arrested on suspicion of sex trafficking after an alert member of the public reported a suspicious vehicle in Hillfields.
Officers responded to the 999 call at 8.20pm last night and found a man in a BMW X5 parked in Canterbury Street near Kildale Close.
He couldn’t offer a plausible explanation for being there and a search of the car uncovered three knives, an axe and two identity cards belonging to eastern European women.
The 39-year-old, from Romania, was arrested on suspicion of possessing offensive weapons and trafficking for sexual exploitation.
He remains in police custody for questioning and while we make enquiries with Europol and try to trace the two women whose cards were recovered.
